Janet is the current Director of the Minnesota Independent Film Council, a position she has held since 2003. Janet received a Master’s degree in nonprofit management in 1995 and worked for a number of foundations and charities before being hired by MIFC to expand the organization and increase its influence.
In 2005, in the midst of severe organizational unrest, Janet restructured MIFC, abolishing the 10-member council’s control over financial and administrative affairs and establishing herself as the undisputed leader of the organization, bringing in a group of her close friends and associates to serve as MIFC’s board of directors in place of the former council. The only MIFC employee or title-holder to survive the purge was Gus Hinckey, the events coordinator.
Janet is loved by some and hated by others. She is credited with expanding the MIFC organization and making it financially solvent, but some people claim that this has come at the cost of its soul.
